The most important adjustment for the distance certificates issued by Fret Brevet is that the swimmer with Lifeguard Training must always exhale underwater, like 'the real ones': aquatic breathing.
That is not easy at all, so we give swimmers enough time …
and we don't think
“Come on! We're going to learn to swim fast."
Benefit?
Your small or larger shark will learn to swim properly for
life , and above all will feel comfortable in the water/pool. Which is of
course much more important than a piece of paper that says 'certificate', while
the graduate may not dare to go under water with his head or can not float on
his stomach or back.
These distance certificates are preceded by certificates in
water habituation, learning to survive or learning to swim safely.
During the lessons we practice just about everything,
including the technique for the distance certificates: we work up to 25 meters
of breaststroke with aquatic breathing.
However, to clear up any misunderstandings...
Often heard: 'They shouldn't be able to swim these days.'
Yes, but the definition of swimming has been adjusted -
rightly so. What exactly is 'being able to swim'? Swim 25 meters straight
ahead, head above water? Getting out of the way if you unexpectedly fall into
the water? Know all the regulations and be able to apply them at an official
100 meter breaststroke competition?
Also often heard: 'Children should only be able to play
doggy style'.
Doggy style is really not easy when you learn to swim
correctly: if you don't dare to float (= lie) in the water and can't push off
with arms/legs on the water, you won't get to the side. It is not a goal in
itself, but it is a suitable exercise to achieve breaststroke because we also
do that while lying down.
A common comparison: being able to swim versus being able to
cycle.
A 4-year-old who can drive straight on for a while, can he
'really' cycle? Or do you think that the cyclist can only really do it if he:
can swerve for a pedestrian; can stop if you ask; or can cycle over a threshold
without falling over from the shock with Lifeguard Class USA.
Conclusion.
Breaststroke still remains the main goal when learning to
swim - we are now a breaststroke country - but important building blocks
precede this and until now they have sometimes been forgotten.
Instead of emphasizing technique (legs) first and foremost,
we like to practice with head down, finding balance/floating on stomach and
back, horizontal and vertical twisting and turning, and moving in the water
(pushing off with arms and legs) on the water).
'The' new swimming learning course wants to help to feel
completely free in the water because what are we with a 25 meter license if a
child is still shocked by water in the ears, panics when water in the face (or
even worse, not under the dares to stand in the shower), cannot save itself in
doggy style if, for whatever reason, it unexpectedly ends up in the water? The
patents have also been adjusted accordingly.
Logically, a different definition of swimming = other tests
to test the ability to swim.
I am already a big fan!
